Adhesive & Surface Selection Guide: Matching Tape, Gel and Acrylic to the Job
The most common reason an adhesive product fails is not the product — it is the mismatch between adhesive, surface and load. How to choose before you buy.
Start with the surface, not the product
Adhesive performance is decided by what the product sticks to. Painted drywall, glazed tile, glass, laminate, bare metal and textured wallpaper behave differently with the same adhesive. Always state the substrate — it is the first question a responsible supplier asks.
Four adhesive families and where each belongs
Foam tape is the low-cost option for light indoor items and short-term display. Residue-free adhesive is chosen where removal must stay clean, such as rentals and repainted walls. Reusable PU gel suits humid rooms and positions that move. Heavy-duty acrylic is the long-hold option for items that stay put. None of these is 'better' — each is right for a different job.
Load is a system, not a single number
The weight a hook carries depends on the product structure, the adhesive, the surface and the temperature together. That is why we confirm load against an approved sample for the actual combination rather than publishing one headline figure that will not hold in your conditions.
Prepare the surface, and tell us the removal requirement
Clean, dry and non-flaky surfaces hold far better. Tell us who removes the product, when, and from what surface — a hook that must come off cleanly after two years is a different specification from one that never comes off.
How to brief an adhesive product request
Send: substrate, item to be held, approximate load, indoor or humid environment, and the removal requirement. With those five answers the right model, adhesive and pack-out can be confirmed in one round instead of four.
Next Step
Every project is different — MOQ, customization and schedule depend on the product and your market. Send us your product details and we will confirm what applies to you.
